Une vision de la thérapie via les cellules souches.

Hey everyone, I'm not sure you all of you remember me, I introduced myself well over a year ago and have been a bit of a lurker since (on and off). Recently I have been "lurking" more often with all the news breaking with many new trials and experimetns being released. One that has really caught my eye and haven't seen much talk about is the stem cell trials coming out in the U.K. for AMD. Do these treatments directly affect us (chm'ers) or will we hope for an application of this treatment that will probably be another 5-10 years on top of the estimated 5-7 years finish of the AMD trials? Since I'm coming out of my lucker status I might as well ask a few more questions. I'm recently turned quarter century old (apparently this is the year people start making fun of how old you are), I've given up driving about 8 months ago, and find that my peripheral is going from what seems to me quite quickly now, as I was just test and found I have 3 and 7 degrees in my left and right eye respectively. How does that compare with others? I have been quite curious about this and have not seen much converstion about it so if this question is out of line please just let me know (that I'm a jerk and shouldn't ask these things, etiquette is my stong suit). Also are any of you in entrepreneurial rolls? I'm looking into a few ideas right now and would love to have a mentor type (more on how to cope with our unique situation, but would also appreciate business mentorship). I'll leave it here for now thanks for your responses,
Stu Starkey

I can give you some background information on the AMD trials at UCL in London. As I'm sure you probably know there are two forms of AMD, wet and dry and while there has been some success with this wave of treatment it has been quite limited. Of the 10 patients involved in the study only three noticed an improvement in their vision and none of those made a radical difference, for example one patient who noted an improvement had been unable to cross the road could now see approaching vehicles 20 yds away although he could still not make out any details on it. The next step in the trials is to expand the treatment focusing on the wet version of AMD as this is where most success has been had so far, the specialists involved in the study feel that an effective treatment to stabilise the condition will be in place within five years.
Cheers,
Steve
